'Heart Party' at Impact Kids

"These things I command you, that you LOVE one another."

(John 15:17)

This was the memory verse at Impact Kids this past week.

Valentine's Day: the official holiday for celebrating LOVE. This is a day marked with bouquets and chocolates between lovers, but yesterday at Impact Kids it was a day marked with quality time and fun.

The view was a sea of red, white and pink as 63 children arrived to school yesterday for their 'Heart Party'. There was no schoolwork, only fun and games!

They enjoyed decorating cookies, eating jello, making valentine cards, and of course playing games outside!

The kids were entertained outside with a multitude of games.

Every child decorated a Valentine's Day card that they could take home to their family.

It was a great day of getting to love on these precious children at Impact Kids!

To love is a command from Jesus Christ. He says in John 13:34-35,

"A new commandment I give to you, that you LOVE one another: just as I have loved you, you also are to love one another. By this all people will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another."

On a holiday like Valentine's Day, and every day of our lives, we must never cease to remember and love the One who first loved us. It is only out of His outpouring of Love, that we can love others.

Restore, Rebuild, Renovate

Impact Kids 2, Diepsloot is well underway and the transformation has been miraculous!As we were praying at the start of the year this scripture touched my heart with regard to the overall ministry taking place here in Africa....
"Your people will rebuild the ancient ruins and will raise up the age-old foundations. You will be called Repairer of Broken Walls, Restorer of streets with dwellings." Isaiah 58:12

But when I began to witness first hand the transformation of the new school this scripture seemed to sum up what's happening there!!

"The Ancient Ruin/age-old foundation....

"The Repairing and Renovation....

The Message version of this scripture rocks..."You'll use the old rubble of past lives to build anew....restore old ruins, rebuild and renovate.....MAKE THE COMMUNITY LIVABLE AGAIN!!"

What is transpiring in the physical I believe is a foreshadow of what will take place in the hearts and lives of those children and families in Diepsloot! For many this place of refuge will be the conduit to spiritual restoration and renovation.

Thanks for journeying with us through your prayers, encouragement and gifts! They are and will continue to bring restoration, renovation and rebuilding to this broken down Community!!

Mama Rebecca

Mama Rebecca, 2nd from the left

I met Mama Rebecca in February this year. She came to Impact Kids School inquiring about a job. In a community where unemployment topples 65-75% you can imagine I get a lot of these type of inquires.

I knew she was a part of Judah Africa, the church we work with in Kya Sands and there was just something about her that I liked. I told her we'd try things out 2 days a week with her helping in the kitchen. Soon those 2 days turned to 5....even when she wasn't working she'd bring her bible and hang out at the school. Rebecca, became "Mama" to everyone at the school and Impact Kids became a "home" of sorts for this precious lady!

She was sickly but having been to the clinic with her just 2 weeks ago, we were assured it was nothing life threatening. Thus the shock when I got the call Saturday that Mama had collapsed. When I arrived at her shack, she lay on the floor covered in a blanket, people all around and my fears were confirmed, Mama was gone.

In my initial year of the Franzenfam blog (when I actually posted frequently), I posted about an exercise I did with my kids (which were so small then). We spent time dreaming and talking about "what heaven would be like" using our 5 senses...click here to read. There is a silly twist at the end but I found myself thinking of this, this past Sunday. As we drove to church we began to imagine what Mama Rebecca was experiencing now in heaven......Formerly unable to discern where her next meal would come from, now feasting at a table filled with all she could possibly desire. Formerly living in a small shack sleeping on the floor, now in a mansion jumping on a King size bed. Formerly in pain and sickly, now whole in body...and on the list goes.

I'm sad to think I won't see Mama Rebecca on a regular basis; her smile and greeting were a highlight of my days however I look forward our meeting again! I now imagine heaven even sweeter and know I'll again "hear" her say, "How are you, Pastor Rich (Reech) and (in a sing song manner) my friends (referring to my kids)?". And I'm confident an enormous cup of strong coffee will accompany her greeting. :)

Yes, we are fully confident, and we would rather be away from these earthly bodies, for then we will be at home with the Lord. 2 Cor 5:8 (NLT)

Feathered Friends

Impact Kids had an outing to the Bird Gardens last week.

For most our feathered friends were an all new sight.

Such a beautiful place and so much to see. Many of the birds roamed free. For some this drew much excitement and for others it was definitely foul play.....

This little guy (Envy is his name...great boy not such a great name) got such a fright he took refuge in a total strangers arms.

There were lots of new sights, a few frights yet smiles would abound...

A very fun time was had by all; one not soon to be forgotten.

Kids Carnival!!

A few weeks ago we hosted another awesome day of

outreach with the Life Groups from

our local church, God First!

We had a great time of discipleship with our group of ladies

we have been meeting with on a regular basis

(pictures and details to come)

AND

we put on an exciting mini kids carnival!!

We started with fun songs and a bible story and

then jumped in with all the activities!

We had a bunch of card board boxes we were trying to find a way to strategically get ride of and so we ended up using them for the kids to
color on with side walk chalk!!!
They LOVED it!!!

While the girls did sidewalk chalk and face painting,
the guys keep the kiddies active with soccer and other fun games!!

And of course we ended the fun time with each child getting a sweetie!!

Surprise trip to Swaziland!!!

Recently, we took the Impact ME interns on a SURPRISE trip to Swaziland!!

At 5am on the morning we were leaving, we went to their house...

woke them up...gave them a packing list and 15 minutes to be packed and loaded...cause we are going to Swaziland!!

It was so awesome to see their ecstatically excited response

as they all flipped out!!!

We had an amazing trip arriving just before lunch on Thursday morning and leaving right after lunch on Sunday!

Each day was packed full of incredible ministry opportunities where the team got to preach, teach and minister in various ways. Each intern had a speaking opportunity in front of a large group of people!

They all brought a timely message and did an amazing job!

Some of our various ministry outreaches included...
spending time at a rural clinic praying with each patient before they left!
An awesome visit to a Teen Challenge men's home where Micah gave them an encouraging message!
Then a trip to a shelter for abused women and their children where Bobbi preached a powerful word!!

What an incredible view behind us!!

We did a kids programs at a Family Home of orphaned children, where we even got to use the Swaziland flag in the lesson!!

Their youth group of mostly orphaned children met twice while we were there and we got to share with them both times!

JV preaching an awesome word and gave an incredible challenge to the youth!

Katie also brought a powerful message at the other service!

Jacob teaching the youth how to play knight, rider, princess!! They loved it!!

Amazing home visits in a rural village!!!

A very special part of our trip was our visit to the local government hospital where we got to spend time with patients in the children's, men's and women's ward, encouraging them with the hope found in Jesus Christ, praying for each patient and just simply reminding them God has not forgotten them!!

The entire trip, start to finish and especially the element of surprise made this an incredible trip and such a highlight of the year!

On Saturday night we took the interns to a special movie at the ONLY movie theater in ALL of Swaziland!!

We wrapped up the trip with Bobbi and Katie both getting to share at the church service Sunday morning!!!

I'm a little late in getting this out but want to thank you for your prayers for Rich while he is in the States. He started his trip in Rockwall, TX with strategy meetings with Global Advance. This is what GA had to say about this special time.......

INTERNATIONAL LEADERS MEET WITH GLOBAL ADVANCE STAFF
This week 15 of Global Advance’s international leaders from 9 nations will convene in Rockwall, Texas, with the ministry’s executive team to pray, strategize, and fellowship. They will review goals, assess progress, and discuss new initiatives.

President Jonathan Shibley stressed that these triennial meetings of Global Advance leaders from around the world are strategic for the ministry’s impact and fruitfulness. “These men represent Global Advance and open doors for us in some 35 nations,” he said. “Bringing several of our key men to our headquarters city every three years is a crucial component for future effectiveness.”

Please pray that these international coordinators, who help make possible the equipping of tens of thousands of leaders, will themselves leave this week refreshed and with a renewed “vision in their hearts and tools in their hands.”

I haven't heard a lot from Rich as their schedule is pretty chalked full but I've gotten tid bits that meetings have been incredible! Such an awesome organization to partner with!! Glad my guy is getting refreshed, refueled and ready to capture more vision (although he's got a lot as it is :)).

He will spend a few more days in Texas at the culmination of this event then onto North Carolina, Virgina, New York and Illinois. It is a grueling travel schedule in a short timeframe but amazing people, churches and ministry in each place that he will connect with.

Although it is hard to be separated as a family for 3 weeks we know in our hearts that this is a strategic time for the ministry filled with much potential. Please be praying for traveling mercies and divine favor for Rich as well as grace and provision (energy, patience, etc) for us all while he is away.

Holiday Club at Impact Kids!

Most of the schools in the area were on vacation last week but Impact Kids stayed open for all the children who would still be in the area!

We didn't want the kids we knew wouldn't come to school during the holiday to get behind but we wanted it to be a special week for all those we knew would still come!!

So instead of moving forward in our curriculum during the week, the interns ran a Holiday Club for the kids!! This also gave our amazing Impact Kids teachers a few special days off themselves!

Each day had a different theme...Monday was sports day, Tuesday was wacky tacky day, Thursday was carnival day and Friday was water day!!

It was such a fun week for both the kiddies and the interns/staff!!

Reminded of the dire need

Ears that Hear

Romans 10:17, “Faith comes by hearing and hearing the Word of God.” Well we are definitely in the “hearing” business...helping people hear and develop faith, which is trust for their own salvation, for healing, for a job, for...... the list goes on.

I am reminded often of the awesome opportunities we are given to be a light, to serve, to bring hope, and to help people “hear”; this would be no exception....Recently the intern team, along with Skyler and myself spent the morning in what was meant to be discipleship classes in Kya Sands. With the many teams coming through this summer, many Africans have heard the Good News and have accepted it for the Truth that it is. With that comes the opportunity to further disciple those in this truth that is so new to them. In an effort to help the tent churches we work with in the informal settlements we set out to initiate small groups in various locations of the camp as a means of follow-up and discipleship.

My group headed out the furthest meeting place, over the river to Grace’s shack (one of our awesome translators). Along the way we met Valentine. He noticed we carried some booklets with us and wondered if we offered work. He ended up accompanying us to the “bible study” site. Then went on to do a lot of interpreting for us as there were 3 ladies from Mozambique that only spoke Tsonga and Valentine was the only one in the group that also spoke Tsonga. The verse “Do not forget to entertain strangers, for by so doing some people have entertained angels without knowing it.”, came to mind and still does as though we’ve tried to connect with Valentine since that day he is no where to be found. Hmmmmmm???

Of the 18 ladies that we were prepared to take a bit further in their new journey we discovered only 1 claimed to have encountered our summer team members and even at that I don’t think she fully understood what was being asked and just agreed. So our “discipleship” meeting turned into just good ole “Sharing Jesus” time. After lots of talking, sharing, discussing, giving examples, and telling stories all 18 ladies bowed their heads and prayed to THE Lord asking for forgiveness and pledging their lives to Him.

We will now go back and next time have some discipleship time.

Can’t tell you how jazzed I was....what an incredible morning sitting on a log and various forms of rubbish that had the composure to hold a human, in the middle of a squatter camp sharing with African ladies who genuinely seemed to want to be there and who want to come back!
The picture is one I’ve held in my head for many years and today the picture took color.....

Pray for us as we continue in this discipleship venture with other areas in the camp as well. We aim to pull in some of the translators and church leaders so to equip them to be the leaders of these groups. Hope to have lots of “hearing” happening very soon!!

Below is a special guest blog post from our friend, Jenna who has spent the last few weeks with us here at Impact Africa and who also joined us on our recent village trip out to Loskop, a place we try to visit at least once a year! Enjoy!

"They say honesty is the best policy. Well honestly, I've been avoiding writing this blog all morning. While at first I was excited for the opportunity, the longer the assignment sat there, the more I started to dread it.

The things I attempted to write never seemed to do it justice.

I still don't know what would. I don't know how to explain a trip like this.

How do you explain the tension between...a trip that seemed so familiar and was so real and easy, but at the same time express how emotionally exhausting it was. I don't know how to make it real...can't paint the right colors on the page for everyone else to understand how every one of us took it in a stride, but will always hold this trip in our hearts.

I CAN tell you how the air was clear, the stars were beautiful, how I saw the moon for the first time since I'd been here. I can tell you we went to schools, that we did dramas, talked about their flag, and how it's colors not only tell about their country, but also tell the story of Jesus. I can tell you how we gave them inflatable soccer balls, and how we spent an afternoon with the kids of a disabled school, giving them flip flops, stickers, bubbles, and more importantly, our attention.

What I can't tell you is what happens in your heart when you look into the eyes ...

of this beautiful angel. I can't explain how it feels to be surrounded by kids who want so badly just to talk to you, or touch you, when you have to get into the car long before they have gotten the attention they deserve because there is another school to go to.

Or how it feels when an entire school chants 'Shine, Jenna, Shine, you shine like a star, shine on, Juice!' and proceeds to greet each of us with this mantra.
I can tell you how when asked to sing us a song, one person would start, and the whole school would break into a beautiful song, and everyone knew instinctively where and when and how to harmonize. But I can't truly express the awe that the impromptu deserves.
I can tell you how we walked through a grave yard, how was saw fresh graves and those of ones whose life was ripped away far too early. How there was a prom across the street, and the roar of life sounded off by teenagers, shed a light on the circle of life and death.
But I can't explain to you the full weight of that understanding.
I can't show you how my face breaks into a grin when I see this picture.

I can tell you that the children we got the pleasure of visiting absolutely astounded me.

I can't tell you how much we affected them.

But I can tell you that God did."

Our New Classroom at Impact Kids!

As many of you know, we have been at max capacity for children at Impact Kids and even had a waiting list for when space was available!! We are so thrilled to announce that the new classroom has been completed/delivered and is in place!

We have all the tables, chairs, toys, puzzles, teachers in place and ready to go. We are just finishing some of the retaining wall that will go under the unit. See before and after pictures below of the journey from build out up to today!

We are rolling out a program shortly for how people can help sponsor a child's education and build a relationship with their sponsored child. More to come on that soon especially as we expand to multiple locations early next year.

Massive impact in the hearts of young people who dared to come to Africa this summer!

We continue to hear incredible testimonies of salvation and miracles from the teams who have been with us the past few months! Together, we have made such an impact here in Southern Africa!

It is also always such a thrill to hear of the massive impact the trips have had on the young people who have dared to believe God and travel all the way to South Africa for their summer break!!

Several of the students have experienced radical transformation, divine re-direction and response to God's call on their lives...and even some have seriously given their lives to Christ for the first time while on the trip!!

Here are just a few of the testimonies from the missionaries!

"One of the last days of our trip, we went to a session were Rich spoke to us about God's plan and how we are a mere scratch compared to eternity. I began to feel God tugging at my heart, letting me know that I should really listen as He spoke to me. Rich kept talking and God kept insisting. By the end when Rich openly asked those to come forward who felt a calling for long term overseas missions, I headed up to the front as fast as I could. As I was praying up front with those who came forward and even still while back at my seat, I really felt myself surrender my life to God for the first time. Every previous plan I had for me, I finally gave over to God to do with as He pleases. If my life, that I have said to be to His glory, is only a mere scratch on eternity, how can I attempt to control any of it when Jesus gave His life for me?...I finally understood that full submission to God is the ultimate freedom!!"

"One night during worship God just touched me and I realized I had not been living for Him. So I just rededicated my life to Him and asked Him to speak through me just after I prayed in a way I myself could not and it was just amazing and overwhelming!"

"For most people getting up and leaving home is the hardest part of being a missionary, but after being in Africa for only 10 days, I've come to find that going home will be ten times harder then it ever was to leave home. Seeing people here appreciate even just such small little things has definitely changed my perspective of the American lifestyle...It breaks my heart to even think I could go home and forget that there are people in the world who haven't had the opportunity to hear about Jesus."

Divine appointment at the "Top of Africa"

While our team from Asia was here, they wanted to spend an afternoon praying over the city of Johannesburg, the entire country of South Africa and ultimately the continent!

So we took them to the Top of Africa! Suppose-ably the tallest building in all of Africa is located right here in Johannesburg!

Once we made it to the 50^th floor at the top of the building...

...everyone broke into pairs to pray as we looked out over the city! It was incredible.

After about an hour we all came back together and spent sometime worshipping right there. At the same time as our visit, a huge group of African students were also at the Top of Africa on a field trip.

During our time of worship several of the African students slowly joined us until eventually almost all of them were all crowded around us as we praised God together!

The African students even lead us in some worship songs. Before we finished, the leader of the Asia team challenged and encouraged the young generation to rise up and we prayed over them!!

Such an incredible divine appointment! Just as we had been praying for the young African generation...God brought a group of them right to us to minister to!

The past 3 weeks we've had a team of 75 students from all over the US (and Canada) here with Global Expeditions! Here are just a few of the amazing testimonies from this trip!

"When we were going from house to house, one of the guys in my group met a man named Nigel. He was sitting around with his neighbors. After sharing the Gospel, the man got saved! We gave him a Gospel of John and right away he started sharing the Good News with his friends!”

“When we were going from house to house, we met a man named Shinyon. He had heard of Jesus, but didn’t really know who He was. We explained who He was and what He did for us! Then we read some Bible verses together! He gave his life to God and after we prayed he was so joyful!!”

“My group and I went to talk to a woman. She said she used to go to church and knew of Jesus. So we just went for it and told her all about Jesus! She soaked up every minute of it! She had so many questions and she actually got what we were sharing with her! In the end she rededicated her life to Christ!!”

“My team and I were going hut to hut and met a lady. We started sharing the gospel with her and then we noticed she had a bracelet on. We asked her what it was for and she told us that her arm hurt and the bracelets would heal it. We explained to her that they had no power. We prayed for her a few times and when we were done, the pain was gone!! Her face lit up!!”

"We were walking around Diepsloot and a woman came up to us and basically said, “tell me about Jesus!!” We shared with her and she got saved!”

“One day after we were done with the Kids Program, I was talking to a little girl named Linda. She had been hanging around our group all week and once we were done today, I started talking to her about Jesus. She told me she wanted to give her life to God but she wanted to do it with me. So we prayed and she got saved.”

Missions teams are here! One came all the way from Asia!!

The past few weeks have been an exciting time of massive IMPACT here in South Africa! We have a team of 75 young people from all over the US and Canada that came with Global Expeditions and a team of 13 students here from Asia! (Most of the teenagers on this trip are actually from all over the world but have grown up as missionaries in Asia!)

It has been awesome to see not only the incredible transformation these young people have brought to the communities and people of Southern Africa but equally amazing is the profound impact the trip has had on them individually!!

Here are some highlights and testimonies from the Asia team!

“On one of the days our team went to Judah Africa Church to have some time of worship and to pray over the community of Kya Sands. Usually when I give things to the Lord, I also hold things back, but this time I completely gave everything up to the Lord. I felt so much more joy and peace in my heart because I surrendered it all to Him!”

“One of the days our team was going from house to house, I met a 13 year old girl who seemed very sad and depressed. I asked her about her life and she said she was from Mozambique and had come here to visit her aunt and uncle but something happened that prevented her from going home. She wants to go back to school but her birth certificate is back home. I shared the Lord with her and she gave her life to Christ!”

“I had always prayed that God would come and change my heart to follow His. I always felt that maybe I forced myself to believe in God but didn’t feel anything from Him. Then when my team had a time of worship and prayer at Judah Africa church, I felt the Holy Spirit fill me up. I was pouring myself out that day and finally not just knew there was a God but now truly believe in my heart! I finally felt like “one of them”, instead of just looking at the others praise I was praising with them. I felt God remind me of a time when I was very young I was in a Korean Church and I saw a girl in tears as she was worshipping and at that time I cried out to God that I wanted that same heart and spirit. God really answered my prayers even from over a decade ago that I had forgotten about most of the time. My prayers were answered and I’m ready to spread His love and word!!"

2 Hours One Saturday

We recently led an outreach for a few of the life groups in our church. The team gathered early one Saturday morning and we headed out to the dirt alley ways of Msawawa....

We engaged in conversations...

Had some fun with the kids.....

Shared some Good News....

And passed out food and blankets....

Those we met and chatted to that morning received a voucher redeemable for a blanket and some food. Over 150 lined up with vouchers in hand....

Due to the generosity of God 1st church as well as Impact Africa supporters we were able to spread a little bit of warmth....

Two hours one Saturday may not change the face of a community but I'm confident it was a deposit of hope for many!

Little by Little

These lovely teachers, daily are having a tangible impact on the students at Impact Kid's Pre-school.

We may not be changing the world with a school of 45 pre-schoolers but we just might making an indelible impression on the families and communities they represent. This is something I tell my teachers often. It's not me, or some amazing preacher that is making the impact, it is them as they daily spend hours upon hours with these children. Every hug, laugh, encouragement, plaster on a bruised knee (plaster = bandaid here) and lesson shared is a tangible act of God's love to these precious children.

We don't realize and may never know the lasting impact being made. However it is wonderful when God gives you a glimpse! A glimpse came the other day..... We use a Christian based curriculum at the school and often bible stories are strewn through the various themes and activities for the kids.

Bridget, who teaches the older kids, was telling her class the story of Shadrach, Meshach and Abednego. At the end of the story the kids would all say together in chant style, "I am not alone. I have God the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and a guardian angel."

Day after day they recited the story and the culminating response; by Friday the kids were standing up by themselves sharing both. The word was planted, being watered and with one little guy it took root. We received reports that when Letabo, age 5, would go home to his shack community he would gather all the kids around and let them know he had something he had to share with them. Once he gathered a crowd of youngsters and curious adults guess what he shared....yep, the story of God's deliverance for 3 young men who trusted even in the face of death. The children returned to their shacks chanting, "I am not alone, I have God the Father, Jesus, the Holy Spirit and a guardian angel."

I don't know what Letabo's future may hold, he may never become a preacher, however I do know for now the seeds of truth are impacting a little boy and his friends who reside in a desperate community. For that I am ever so grateful and encouraged....little by little a difference is being made!

Mswawa Miracles

The interns have been spending a lot of time in the informal settlement (squatter camp) of Mswawa. In all of these camps African traditions and false religious beliefs are a strong part of the culture. Here is a testimony from earlier this month involving a Sangoma (local witchdoctor..pictured with her granddaughter)....

Earlier this month, we experienced a very rare, but special encounter with a Sangoma, or better known as a witch doctor. She came to us asking for prayer over her grand baby who has been extremely ill, suffering from eating problems, vomiting and having intolerable pains throughout her body; because of this, she had a feeding tube placed in her stomach. Due to her grandmother's practices as a witchdoctor, she had a number of threaded bracelets tied around her wrists and ankles that hold a purpose of "protection and healing".

When we first approached the Sangoma's shack she was engaged in a "chant" of sorts with some of her friends. The group went into a separate room and the Sangoma stopped what she was doing and came to us to share her dilemma of her sick baby.

We prayed for the baby and after feeling the presence of the Holy Spirit right there in the midst of oppression, we believed there would be manifest healing in this baby girl's body.

About a week later, we visited the Sangoma again at her home and saw an incredible improvement in the baby girl's health. She is now eating on her own, the vomiting has stopped and her body is free from pain. With a noticeable joy in this child's life, it was clear that God had laid His hand on her body. The Sangoma even accredited the healing to the Lord! She recognized that it was the prayers to a living God that changed the situation, and is really wanting freedom from her lifestyle.

We will continue to journey with this family in love, discipleship and deliverance. Please be praying for us for continued healing for the baby and eye-opening truth for the Sangoma.

I realize an IK update is long overdue. It has been such a spectacular year with much growth. Six more students were added to the school just this month bringing our total to 45. Five more students and both classrooms will be filled to the brim. We are definitely ready to add another container/classroom. Prayers for this are greatly appreciated!

A new friend and early morning running buddy has joined us on a Tuesday, teaching the kids P.E. It has been a huge hit and definitely is meeting a need. So grateful for Teacher Des and her willingness to spend a few hours with the Impact Kids each week.

The Reality Pinch

Yesterday was what we refer to as our "African Anniversary". Seven years ago we made South Africa home. Each year I spend some time in reflection and celebration of this journey.

Why you may ask? I mean if you move States or Continents it's not often people celebrate that day. I can't say I circled the day on the calendar that I moved to East Texas.

One of our new interns said the other day, "I've already been here 2 weeks and I still wake up in the morning and think, I'm in Africa." My response: I've lived here 7 years and both Rich and I still periodically look at each other in awe and comment, "Honey, we live in Africa".

So why does our African arrival get such clout; why are we still giving ourselves the "reality check pinch"?

I read Psalms 16 yesterday and I felt it summed things up pretty well....

"Lord you have assigned me my portion and my cup; you have made my lot secure. The boundary lines have fallen in pleasant places, surely I have a delightful inheritance."

Yes, the boundary lines in terms of eternity based on my faith in Jesus Christ is secure and has fallen in pleasant places thus I have a delightful inheritance! I feel this also applies to our time here in Africa.

When we stepped foot on this continent 7 years ago it was the beginning of the reality to a dream come true. This move was in our hearts, minds, prayers, tears, and work for years before the reality of it came to being.

We feel we've been assigned our portion and that the Lord has made it secure that the boundary lines (geographically as well as eternally) have fallen for us and we consider our African place a pleasant one. We delight in our inheritance and don't want to ever take it for granted.

I was reminded yesterday in an old journal entry that prior to the dream becoming a reality or the prayer being answered our utter dependence is on the Dream Maker but often when the prayer is answered or the dream begins to take shape our focus/faith shifts from the One who breathed life into it, to the dream itself. For some reason we decide God had his part but we can take it from here....self-sufficiency sets in.

My prayer was and is that this would not happen with our "Dream of Africa"; that although we are walking out the reality of that dream I don't ever want to lose the need for the "reality pinch". I want to remain in awe and celebration of what My Father birthed and what He for provided every step of the way. I want my gratitude to be evident and my feeling of utter dependence on HIM for the rest of the journey to remain tangible on a daily basis!

And so.... the celebration of our African Anniversary remains dear to us and the "pinch" will continue....

We were asked to organize an outreach for a couple life groups from our church. So we did, not sure of what to expect. Twenty or so youth and adults came and at least another 10-12 kids. We started with a some basics, as for most it was their first time in a community like this and then continued the learning process tangibly and practically in the squatter camp!

Afterwards during debriefing the overall consensus was "it was an eye opener" and it wet the appetite for more...which is truly exciting for us.

The group spent the morning being the hands, feet, mouth and heart of God to some very special African people, including the many children!

I was with the kid's ministry so was unable to capture the shack to shack ministry but some awesome things transpired there as well! Here's a glimpse of what took place....

What a great morning of "loving our neighbor" in a very tangible way!

How's Your Alignment?

As the page turned on a new year so my thoughts and prayers focused on the days that lie ahead. As I pondered a year laden with fresh grace, new opportunities and a clean slate a reoccurring theme in the form of one word made quite an impression. The word..."alignment".

My husband will attest to the fact that I know very little about cars. If it gets me from point A to point B I'm happy. However after driving on African roads I quickly learned that my car needs to be taken in for a periodic alignment. The car still gets me from point A to point B however it has a slight pull to the right or left...it doesn't drive straight aligned with the road as it is designed to.

Realignment means "to put back into proper order or alignment."

I've spent time looking at our plans for the ministry, my marriage, family, goals, vision, rel. with God and asking for realignment where necessary. Like a car, we can still function without realignment however we become slightly, at first, "off" and if left unaligned we grow increasingly off course. We end up not functioning straight aligned as designed to.

The coolest revelation (it was revelation to me, perhaps not for you) is that is doesn't have anything to do with "Me": my strength, my abilities, my good deeds, all the might I can muster, even my faith however it has everything to do with my alignment. Who and what I am aligned to. If I can keep that straight and get things put back into "proper order" everything else falls into place.

So what about an "alignment scripture"...how bout Matt 6:33
"Seek first the Kingdom of God and HIS righteousness and all these things will be given to you as well."

Are you ready for the cherry on the top? When we are walking aligned..straight in line with Him and His Ways, people don't see me they see Him. And isn't that what this "Christian life" is all about...Making Him known, helping people be glad in Him, pointing others to His ways and for whose glory...HIS!

Here's to a great new year and here's to "driving through it" aligned!

A Big Week in Kya

This week has been a flurry of activity in Kya Sands Community....

Tuesday, ladies from the community gathered to be a part of the initiative- 16 Days of Activism. It is an international campaign to make people aware of the negative impact of violence on women and children and to act against abuse.

Judah Africa's Tent Church was the gathering place.

Moms dropped their little ones off at Impact Kid's, where they had a safe environment to play and they were given a meal.

Rich had an opportunity to encourage the ladies and share Impact Africa's vision to help women and children of the Kya Community through the efforts of Impact Kid's school and Community Care Center.

Close to 200 kids were on IA school grounds that day. We were so pumped to see the facilities being utilized by so many and felt like we were getting a glimpse of what is to come.

On Saturday, a massive Christmas Community Outreach in Kya took place. Again Judah Africa was the host and surrounding organizations got involved. JAM (Joint Aid Management/Jesus Alive Ministries) turned out to help feed the crowd. We offered the use of IA Kid's as a means to help with distribution and close to 3,000 funneled through the campus and were fed. It was amazing!

I had the wonderful opportunity to meet and chat with Ann Pretorious, her and her husband, Peter, started JAM which currently assists more than 500,000 children through nutritional feeding programs. She is an inspiration and the words she spoke to Rich and me were a real encouragement.

With so many people things can get out of hand quickly. Fortunately, we had the RSS, security guys there keeping things running smoothly. That is when they weren't posing for photos...

Before and after the feeding, activities at the church ensued. There were jumping castles, bands, dance, tree-planting, Miss SA..somethin' somethin' (never got her official title), the police department handing out gifts, tons of donated candy...etc.

The tent was filled with excitement...and hot air (it was a bit on the warm side!)

My personal favorite of the day was Impact Kid's Performing their Christmas play. :)

All I had to do was "herd the sheep"...

yet I would lose one in the process....

The day was filled with tons of fun and big smiles....

We were absolutely chuffed (SA expression for great excitement) to be a part of impacting so many in such a tangible way during this special Christmas Season.

Never gets Redundant

The rain cleared just as the Trailblazers headed out to the squatter camp for ministry....

My groups first meeting was with a Zimbabwean man, Fred (technically not his name but I won't even attempt to spell his African name so for this post we'll go with "Fred"). As he shared his story with us it was one I hear all too often...a talented man jobless. I asked him how long he's lived in Kya and he told me he moved from Zim in search of work just a month ago. These camps grow at such a rapid rate. Ministry in these areas never gets redundant!

As we talked with "Fred" we experienced another familiar occurrence... others came to hear what we were talking about. Soon our group of 1 turned to 7; all hungry to listen and know the Truth.

3 other teams scattered across the camp had similar encounters and engaging conversations.

My favorite ministry moment came with Liza. She said something that has become a theme that keeps us motivated to keep doing what we are doing. "I've heard people talking about Jesus but NO ONE has told ME about Him!" Such a powerful statement that provokes such a deep desire in me to "get out there more". I envision bible studies "under the tree", "at the bridge" , "by the water tap"...weekly meetings in Kya making sure everyone has a chance to hear about Him and is given an opportunity to know Him.

So grateful for people like the Trailblazers helping us get The Word out in boldness and power!

An Exciting First

For every child and the IK teachers this was their first visit to the zoo. Additionally for most this was their first time seeing any of these guys...

We walked and/or were carried....

Not a peep was heard on the drive back to the school...well maybe a few "ZZZZZZZ"..

Suffice to say, we had a stunning day at the Johannesburg Zoo; one I don't think will soon be forgotten by my little African friends!

A Community Loving it's Neighbor

You may remember the tent church we work with in Kya Sands, Judah Africa, being vandalized and completely destroyed last year. It was a time of grave disappointment but not despair! People began to pray and a community, much of it being the American community, came to the aid. The church received a brand new tent, much larger and nicer than the one before. It was a beautiful testament to the power of prayer, people's tangible support and God's faithfulness!

Well last week that beautiful tent had an opportunity to reach out to it's neighbors in a beautiful way! A fire started in the shacks and an estimated 70-100 families lost their homes. We got a call the afternoon it happened and scraped together what we could but went to bed feeling a bit helpless.

Within 48 hours the South African community banded together to love their neighbor in the big way.

Judah Africa church became the hub for the distribution of goods for the fire victims and the tent was filled with clothes (most brand new), food, baby items, supplies, etc. People were fed and even the government kicked in with help to rebuild the shacks.

We've worked in this community alongside Judah Africa for 4 years now (where Impact Kids is located) and it was a very proud day for us. And for all those that helped last year give a church a fresh start with their beautiful new tent it became the beacon of hope last week for so many!

Thank you for your prayers and support....sometimes we can't see what all they will accomplish but they always seem to accomplish much!

Incredible Impact

As a result approximately 5024 Africans had the opportunity to hear about the One that loves and cares deeply for them. Of that number, 1949 prayed a prayer that altered their eternal destiny.

We are ever so grateful for every group and person that gave up the comforts of home, especially the heat, made their way to Africa and spent their days tangibly Sharing the love of Christ in Kya Sands, Mswawa, Diepsloot and Thabo Mbeki informal settlements!

They made an Incredible Impact!

Julia's Story

As we walked down the dirt road in Kya Sands we came upon a woman doing laundry outside her shack. The small group stopped and asked her if we could help. She declined but invited us to visit with her while she continued.

We found out her name was Julia and she had a 7 year old son but he lived with his grandma (Gogo) in another community in South Africa. This is typical in these areas as many are seeking employment and need help taking care of the children while they do so. She had yet to find a job.

She originally told us that she was a Christian but after talking awhile and specifically as the team members shared what Jesus did for them she recanted and said she did not know Him like we did. By this time she had stopped doing her laundry and was completely engaged in what we had to say. We were able to use the simple task of "doing laundry" as an analogy about sin and the redemption. As we shared further she started getting excited and asked us to tell her how she can have a relationship with Jesus like we did.

It was such a joy to spend time with Julia and talk about our Lord. When we do this we know He is glorified but are never quite sure what will transpire with the person we are talking to. In this case, Julia made Jesus Lord of her life. And as we parted ways, she told us "I am so happy!"

There are many more stories like this occurring each day as the teams openly share and get to know members of the Kya Community.

Please continue to pray for Julia and the many like her that are hearing about Jesus for the first time. We work with a great church that is within walking distance so are encouraging those we talk with to get involved there.

Precious in His Sight

One of the groups here ministering with us is working in the squatter camp of Mswawa. This is a smaller camp that we work in with an estimated 4,500 Africans living in shacks made from scrap metal, tin and wood. Majority of its residents are from surrounding African countries and many are unemployed.

There are always scores of children....

This being true in all the areas we work we've developed a curriculum that the teams learn and share with the kids. It is based on the Wordless Color book which happens to be the same colors in the South African flag.

For my SA readers: this was the groups first time performing and have since learned the proper way to hold the SA flag. :)

Per the norm, we started with about 20 kids but as the program continued so did the kids. My favorite moment was a quarter of the way through the lesson the team leader, Keith, came around the corner with an entire creche' of kids....

By the end of the lesson the attendance grew into the 70's. These are a few of the precious little guys.

And where we put one to sleep, many others heard about and experienced the love of God via the teens.

It was a cold, windy albeit wonderful day in the squatter camp of Mswawa.

It's Not Over

The vuvuzelas have quieted, Spain boarded the plane with the trophy in hand, the street vendors are back to selling cell phone chargers and blow-up toys with cartoon characters on them instead of WC paraphernalia and Shakira will have to get a new song. Ke Nako, “It is Time”, will soon be a distant memory.

Although the sights and sounds of the World Cup have died down the banner of bringing hope to a nation remains in the hands of “ambassadors” around the country.

44 North Americans endured an arduous journey back to the States (58 hours of travel) after sharing the love of Jesus with more than 2,000 Africans. 18 students remained and will soon unite with a new team and take The Message to Zambia. On Wednesday another student group arrives in South Africa and next week 2 additional teams will join the Impact Africa ranks to deliver food parcels, blankets, and Share Jesus in squatter camps around Johannesburg and in schools in Kwa Zulu Natal.

“Our work" most certainly is not over; in fact the next 4 weeks much impact will be felt throughout this nation. We are ever so grateful for the prayers solicited on our behalf and for the teams thus far; the group had an awesome, life-changing trip and touched many nationals as a result. Please continue to believe with us for even greater things to transpire through the team initiatives in this city and the nation!

For years we've been building, for months excitement brewing, finally on June 11 the time arrived. A nation beaming with pride, for the first time in history an African country would host the FIFA, Soccer World Cup. The slogan uttered for years of planning, would come to pass..."It's time for Africa."

We've so enjoyed and joined in the vibe and energy happening here in the rainbow nation....from the (annoying) vuvuzelas, to the sea of green and yellow seen every Friday in support of Bafana Bafana. Flags of all nations are wavin' and team spirit is at an all time high.

We also realize while all eyes are on South Africa the time is like no other to share the love and heart of God with the African people. It just so happens that throughout the duration of the WC we will host close to 100 North Americans who are here for The Ultimate Goal....

MC Making an Impact

A Master's Commission group from Rockford, Illinois joined us for 10 days in various ministry and fun endeavors. They made a great impact in the Kya Sands squatter camp and Estcourt schools. Here's a glimpse at their work...

The team averaged 4 school assemblies a day while in Estcourt...

From primary school to highschool, all ages were receptive and excited about what the group had to share...

One of the efforts in Kya Sands was helping make picnic tables for the students at Impact Kids.

A Little Extra Measure

A team from Rockford, Illinois arrived on Thursday and is ministering with us until the end of the month. They officially kicked off what we affectionately term, “Team Season”. I liken it to “tax season”…not that it is taxing although it can be at times, rather the hours are long and the schedule intense but with it comes great dividends!

From now until mid-August we will host over 100 people of differing ages...3 groups with Global Expeditions and 2 church groups. Additionally, Rich will oversee groups in Zambia and Uganda.

I received a message from a friend recently where she mentioned lending us extra prayer coverage during this busy Season. She hit the nail on the head.

“All that needs to happen in our lives and those who we are in community with cannot happen without the power and presence of God. Prayer invites and ignites both!” – Stormie Omartian

Where we always need prayer there are times we need an extra measure and this is one of those times! So we beckon our friends, family, supporters and random readers if you are praying for us THANK YOU and would you add a few more minutes to the prayer clock with regard to the following:

1) Long hours and “African” delays and ways can be a strength zapper. Pray that the joy of the Lord would be our strength and challenges would be met with peace and favor!

2) South Africa will host the Soccer World Cup this June. Where there is great excitement and hopes that the influx of tourists will boost the South African economy there are negative factors as well. One of which is an increase of perverted focus on children, esp. young girls. Would you agree with us for the safety of our family, every person coming to work with us, our staff, and the children of South Africa? I specifically pray that the plans of the evil one will be foiled and children would be sheltered under the Shadow of the Almighty!

3) With the increase of on the ground “troops” our ministry efforts multiply; this is always very exciting for us and the churches we work with. Please pray for divine appointments, for open and receptive hearts to the Good News, and sensitivity to the leading of the Lord. We are holding onto 1 Corinthians 2:9!

4) With the increase of ground troops there is an increase of needed resources. Lots of “extras” go into this season, from increased staff to extra humanitarian aid efforts and a whole lot in between. Please pray that ALL our needs are met and that we would have extra to be a blessing to the so many that have such great needs especially during these winter months.

5) Selfishly this is such a wonderful time for the Franzenfam as the whole family gets to participate in team activities....not to mention the influx of American treats. hee

The lessons my children learn from the ministry experiences as well as the participants is invaluable! Would you pray that we would not get lost in the busyness of the moment but that our hearts would be receptive to all that the Lord intends for us as a family?!

Impact Kids' Celebration & Dedication Ceremony

April 29, 2010 would mark the official date for the dedication of our first Impact Kids' Pre-school and Community Care Centre!

As guests arrived they were given a tour of the premises...

This picture gives a nice view of the plot...the orange and green buildings are the 2 classrooms, the blue and yellow in full sight is the office, off to the right is our newest addition the blue shade covering right off the kitchen.

And just a side note...look at that sky. After days of seemingly never-ending rain the sun and blue sky showed up, just in time for the event. A good reminder that God's timing is perfect!

Just over 40 people attended the event....friends, church leaders, local newspaper, and various business leaders.

New Dimension

A mere 2 weeks ago I shared pics of the new additions to Impact Kids and in my review I asked readers if they would agree in prayer for a much needed playground for our kiddies. In addition, I asked a special group of ladies that I bible study with, to also agree. Well pray-ers...herewith is the answer to your prayers....

We want to add a few other items (shade netting, etc) for the play area but we feel this is a pretty amazing start!

It definitely was a 'Thankful Thursday' and I am sure tomorrow will be a 'Fun Friday' as the kiddies enjoy their new playground.

God's Math

I love God's math....Impact Kid's pre-school under went some divine multiplication last week.

If you've been following our IAK's posts, what began with 1 classroom in January jumped to 4 this week. It has been an equation of prayer, perseverance and patience but glory to God we are seeing the dividends.

March 10, 2010 would mark the delivery of 3 additional containers...another classroom, an office/teacher's work area, and full kitchen. Take a look....

Please pray for us as we will open Classroom #2 for twos and threes in April. There is a lot of work to be done in order to have this area ready for learners. Greatest need is for educational toys appropriate for 2's and 3's.

We have been blessed with some donations of food however this is an area we are working on and request prayer: for vendors to grab hold of the vision and donate food for feeding endeavors.

This has been a huge blessing giving us our own water supply!

A very proud moment for the Franzens (a cute little one snuck into the picture).

It was a sunny, hot day however my glasses were more to hide the tears welling up in my eyes as I watched a dream unfold. We are sooo grateful and in awe of God's provision and goodness!

You may notice the large open space between the set-up of containers. It is a perfect space for a playground and this is at the forefront of our needs list. This may not seem like a "need" but ask any teacher or person that has spent long periods of time with children and they will tell you what a significant need this really is. Will you join us in agreement for playground dividends?!

The term "Care Center" has been in our hearts and on our tongues lately. This will not just be a pre-school but an Epicenter of Care for a community. We want to eventually have a number of programs running from this Center that will tangibly touch people of all ages from this community with the love of a Caring God.

Thank you for the many prayers and the generous giving as undoubtedly they have been essential to the equation! Would you please pray for us as we continue this journey of developing this land into a base to educate, train and disciple Africans who most probably otherwise would not be given such an opportunity.

New Faces & Good News

New Faces
This week brought new faces to and good news for Impact Kids. We had 4 more students enroll bringing us to 14. It doesn't sound like many but the first container is definitely filling up.

The teachers are in full teaching mode presenting a variety of learning activities to the kids. Here is a glimpse of some of the "playing with a purpose" that is taking place....

Good News
At weeks end we got word that a check for THREE containers was in process. Work on the next classroom, full kitchen (feeding opp. for the community in addition to the school) and office will commence this week. Isn't that awesome?! We are in awe of God's amazing provision.

Once everything is in place we will need to outfit each: office with furniture and computer, school room with supplies and tables, in addition to a frig, stove, pots and pans for the kitchen. Obviously this is just naming a few of the needs. I can't help believe that with every new step there will be new provisions!

Our Children from "Afar"

People always ask us if we are going to have any more kids. I'll leave you to guess what my response is...hint, it is an emphatic one. Rich's is a bit more creative, "Yes, but from afar." Meaning that we will help "parent" other children but not within our own home...or at least not at this juncture. Well here is a glance at our newest kids. These 10 cuties are the first Impact Kids' pupils.

And helping us "parent" are our wonderful teachers, Coletta and Charity.

Coletta is Acts's wife and Charity resides in the Kya Sands Informal Settlement. Both are doing a fabulous job of learning how to teach and putting it into practice with the little ones.

The kids will learn English, some already know bits and pieces but for most Zulu is their first language. Two speak only Setswana (Botswana roots); fortunately this is one of the languages Charity speaks.

The kids get an early start (7 a.m.), like Mncedicsi (yeah, I call him "Fred"...he doesn't understand me anyway- hee).

Our good friend, Dan, helped us put together this nice kitchen where meals are prepared for the kids.

I'm really enjoying spending time with the teachers and these precious little ones. So fun learning their personalities and watching them gain confidence in their new school. Daily, I'm tempted to scoop one up and take him/her home with me. I mean look at this face....

My "emphatic response" just might be fading.

New Beginnings

Alas and update...well from the looks of my last post and what you are about to view I am pleased to say we have made much progress on Impact Kids! Take a look...

The orange and green are IA Kids' logo colors, all other containers will follow suit, eventually we will add some decals etc.

Since this picture was taken a nice little brick walk way has been added to help reduce little feet tracking dirt into the classroom.

View from the window...you can see the tent church of Judah Africa, of whom we are working with. Pastor's little girl Zoe will join us at school in Feb.

We've been blessed with a wonderful construction company that has been helping with this project. They have donated their machines and labor which has saved hundreds of dollars. This next pic is the start of the foundation for classroom #2. It sits next to the existing classroom.

This area will be the foundation of the kitchen. We are designating a container outfitted with a proper kitchen that will not only feed the children of IA Kids but will eventually be a service to the community Kya Sands.

We've hired our friend Mutsa as the grounds and security manager of IA Kids. He resides on the property. Also in the house is a nice kitchen that will temporarily be used to feed the children until the container kitchen is up and running.

And here are a few of our first IA Kids. School officially opens Feb 1 however we have taken a few for the end of Jan dates as parents have needed help.

Eventually there are plans for a 3rd classroom, an office, and a nice playground.

Seems the doors are really opening for partnership and if these partnerships/promises materialize the feasibility of getting the playground and next classroom up would be soon.

Thank you for the continued prayers for this establishment. We are excited with the progress and feel it is going to be a haven for so many in a very hurting community.

Slow and Steady,never the less Progress...

Things in Africa never happen quickly, thus is the case with Impact Kids. Three weeks ago the crew started installing the perimeter fence and we are finally seeing the light at the end of the tunnel. Here are a few snapshots of the progress thus far....

It is rainy season and the rains did incite some delay but here is a portion of the fence up....

The guys laid the foundation and are building a dwelling for our grounds and security person. This will also house a kitchen for meal preparation for the preschool kids. Children will receive 2 hot meals, in addition to 2 snacks each day.

Please continue to pray for us in this endeavor...we are making good progress but still have a ways to go before we are ready to open doors.

Due to the massive generosity of our USA friends and supporters… to date we have raised $22,000 for Impact Kids!

Another $20,000 has been promised from a South African foundation.

How cool is that?!!!!

Please pray for the fruition of the latter as it would mean 2 additional containers/classrooms!

The 8 foot high perimeter fencing is going up this week.

Things are progressing for the first Impact Kid’s school and we are excited.

We’d still like to see another $18,000 come in to use for the playground facilities, classroom furnishings, security quarters…just to name a few.

A Week of Wonder

Last week, we enjoyed the company of a group of 11 from Virginia. Six of the eleven were with us last year, when Africa captured their hearts. They returned plus five ready to impact churches, schools, and communities.

It was only a week but definitely a week full of opportunities rendering life-altering results for close to 400 children and adults alike.

Upon request part of the week was spent visiting some of the people the group ministered to last year when they were here. What cool stories later relayed of people who one year ago chose the One and Only and today were continuing to live for Him!

Many new experiences transpired as well. One group encountered a deeply disturbed woman with nothing but the clothes on her back. After spending the morning with her there was a noticeable change in her appearance and attitude. Two days later the group returned to check on her. They found her in a neighbor’s shack combing through the materials the group gave her just days before. Essentially these ladies were having a “bible study”.

I had the privilege of ministering with a group to this lady….

She saw us in the streets talking with people and summoned us to her shack. After meeting her and her friends she shared with us how just last week her 3 year old son died. She was deeply grieving and so desperately wanted to know there was hope…Hope she and her friends readily received!

What a week the team, Impact Africa, and 400+ African people had...a Week of Wonder!

Impact Kids Venture & Status

About a year ago we embarked on a journey that we believe was engineered by God, to reach and educate the underprivileged, orphaned and at risk children, with quality, caring Christian education.

We have procured land and begun funding to build a pre-school in the squatter camp of Kya Sands. We hope this to be the first of many Impact Kids 'rescue centers' standing in various camps throughout Johannesburg giving these precious children an opportunity they might not otherwise be afforded.

Crusade & Pastor's Conf. in Zimbabwe

Very early Sunday morning Rich and friend Steve Oliver will embark on a lengthy journey to Mutare, Zimbabwe.

Steve heads up Life World Outreach, a ministry that specializes in crusades throughout southern Africa. LWO has a passion for the people of Zimbabwe and we are privileged to join them on this crusade of sharing God’s grace and love with the Shona people.

Mutare borders Mozambique on the Eastern coast of Zim and is the 4th largest city in the country. The Shona people are noted as being very peaceful and accepting of foreigners making it a welcome atmosphere to share our hearts and the love of Jesus.

An aspect of ministry that Rich is really becoming fond of is teaching Pastors and leaders in and around South Africa to grasp a deeper understanding of biblical truths and how to apply them.

At week’s end he will have an opportunity in partnership with LWO and Global Advance to share with Pastor’s and leaders of the Shona people.

Would you please pray for the crusade team and this awesome opportunity to make Christ known in Mutare?

Good Report from Zambia

Recently, Rich joined with the host church, Heritage of Faith Zambia and a group of South Africans in a week of hands-on ministry in the Lusaka area.

The group visited orphanages, had a special time of ministry to widows, presented the Gospel in schools, hosted a Pastor's training event and saw many miracles take place at a 2 day crusade.

For this groups first encounter with “short-term missions” Rich was impressed with their sincerity and willingness to serve the Zambian people in any capacity. He reported that some very precious ministry took place…hearts changed, bodies healed and many encouraged.

Soccer balls and more soccer balls….this group of orphans received new soccer balls in addition to some good fun with the team…

This boy had an evident rash all over his body. After the team prayed for him the rash slowly disappeared. Doesn’t that smile say it all….

This woman reported that she had severe pain in her upper leg and hip for over 10 years and had been to the doctors numerous times. While we were praying for the sick she was walking towards the stage and she explained that it was if her bones in her leg and hip began to crackle and pop…as she continued to walk the pain was completely gone. She stood straight for the first time in years and praised the Lord for her healing!

We are grateful for God’s word and the power we have in it! The teams operated according to Mark 16:17-18, “Lay hands on the sick and they WILL recover”…
and we saw the miraculous take place in southern Africa this “summer”!

Loving People to Jesus

I am continually amazed at how one seemingly small act of kindness can touch a heart---and perhaps endear it to the love of the Savior. Since June groups have served with us in variety of ways and as a result more than 5,ooo men, women, and children made a decision for Christ.

Our words about Jesus register with the Africans because they experience the love of Jesus through practical means—blankets, food and acts of service.

Thank you to the groups that joined with us to serve the African people; your labor was not in vain!

Please continue to pray for us and the corresponding churches we work with on an effective follow-up process. Many are students from Diepsloot and Loskop schools so we are encouraging bible clubs to continue to strengthen these new believers.

God is good and we are grateful to be a small part of His work in southern Africa!

Washing Feet African Style

Service is a big part of our ministry emphasis when out in the communities. That would include helping meet tangible needs in various ways. Sometimes it is with gifts…blankets, food parcels, clothing….other times it may be pitching in and helping with the daily chores.

The African people are blown away when team members ask to help with laundry or washing dishes…whatever is of need. It also is a beautiful way to begin to build a relationship and almost always it leads to an opportunity to Share Jesus.

This group got an “only in Africa” service opportunity and I was so glad to be there to capture it on camera.

Well after all isn’t “washing feet” biblical and an act of humility and service? Who said it was reserved only for human feet?

Well this group did it and they did it, African style!

I'm also pretty sure they all returned to America vegetarians.

Expecting the Unexpected

Recently I’ve been reading Lee Strobel’s book, The Unexpected Adventure. In the book he shares how, “The unscripted adventures on the high seas of personal evangelism are what give excitement, fulfillment, and ultimate purpose to a life of faith.”

In our line of business, “Sharing Jesus” with people in various ways by various means is an expected goal of what we do and why we are here. However if I’ve learned anything, it is even when purposefully setting out to Share Jesus, it doesn’t always go as one plans or expects. It truly is an adventure with many ups and downs…one I long to continue to get better at and see unfold in every aspect of my daily life.

The past few days I have been out with the groups that are here from North America. The “expectation”…we train, we plan, we organize and the group comes with the intent of Sharing Jesus cross-culturally. My role becomes that of a teacher/facilitator....or that is what I expected.
Today the thrill of the unexpected happened as I was operating in my expected role. What spilled forth was more exciting than any rollercoaster ride….

Kids gathered at the dirt soccer field to hear what the group from America had to say. There was a point during the presentation where the team was immersed in group activities with the kids and huddled together waiting were 20 or so “mommies”.

Suddenly I was presented with an opportunity to talk about critically important eternal issues with these 20 moms. As a result I had the privilege of praying with 16 of them to receive Christ as their Lord and Savior.

The day that started fairly routine and expected turned wonderfully unexpected for me and these African moms!

Here’s to living the unexpected adventure….allowing THE great evangelist to use us to fulfill His mission of redeeming the world, one individual at a time!

Time is Tickin'

Yesterday another group arrived. Their last 2 weeks were spent ministering in Zambia and they are here awaiting the arrival of their other team members next week. They had a morning of rest, Rich will spend the afternoon with them doing some ministry training and tomorrow they will put their training to the test in a nearby squatter camp.

Two groups arrive next week and teams will be with us until August 4.

This is a busy but effective season as we can cover much ground with increased troops, in a short period of time. Time is critical as unfortunately the stats of HIV and AIDS in the areas we are ministering can be as high as 80%.

We appreciate your continued prayers for the groups, for strength and health in the busyness and for divine appointments.

A Glimpse of Ministry

Two teams have come and gone...hard to believe as time just seemed to fly by. The fruit of their support- More than 12,000 Africans heard the Gospel presentation through school assemblies, street dramas, one-on-one conversations and special services.

Our second team also participated in a food distribution program, ministered at pre-schools and witnessed many open doors due to the blanket give away.

Bounding in Blankets

In May, we announced what has become an annual blanket drive and the goal was to raise money to purchase 1,000 blankets by June 1.

It was fun to hear from different sponsors of ways they were raising money to help with the blankets. One of our good friends that is a CEO offered a matching program to his employees, church congregations got involved, individuals gave via facebook and families pitched in, in various ways. My nieces and nephews had an "Olympics weekend" to raise funds, dear friends in Florida and Texas got their kids doing some extra chores, even the Franzenfam had fun raising money and they had their own matching program to boot (aka Grandma).

By June 1 we were at 1,168 blankets. Already surpassing our goal funds continued to come in and to date we have purchased 1,255 blankets! Woo-hoo!!

We have given out almost 400 blankets already and will continue the distribution throughout June……just in time for July which is typically our coldest month.

Starting Off with a Bang

We have a group of 35 here ministering with us in the squatter camp of Diepsloot.

Things got off to a great start. The team is working in a number of the schools and the assembly programs range in numbers from 800-1000+ students.

Today we held a festival of sorts at a soccer field in the camp and kids came in droves. By days end, there were estimates close to 3,000 children in attendance.

This group will very likely be in front of 10,000 African students by weeks end.

While the team rotates groups in the schools others are out in the community sharing via drama and conversational evangelism.

PLEASE pray for the ministry as this is an awesome opportunity to share with so many in such a short time period. We are believing for a heart change, an eternity change and subsequently a life-change.

New, Bigger, Stronger and STANDING

More about this endeavor....

The weather is quickly changing here in the southern hemisphere and soon bone-chilling winter temps will roll in.

For the past two years, May has been an extremely cold month kicking off the winter season. With this in mind we want to share with you an inexpensive yet tangible opportunity to help many during our winter months.

For those we minister to living in the squatter camps, housed in metal and cardboard shacks, the winters bring harsh realities. Last year numbers soared into the hundreds of people freezing to death. Men dressed in shorts huddled around an outdoor fire and children snuggled close in an attempt to keep warm are common sights during these next few months.

The past two years in an effort to combat these realities and help bring some warmth we passed out thick, wool blankets with the overseas teams canvassing the squatter camps. Last year we were able to warm more than 1,000 women, children, the sick and elderly with such blankets.

During the months of June-August, we will have 150 short-term participants ministering with us in these poverty stricken areas. In addition to sharing the Message of hope with them, we would like to utilize the groups to hand out blankets similar to those we have purchased in the past.

Progress, Public Schools, A Plane, Prayer & Peace

Wanted to give you an update on a few IA happenings....

Kya Sands Tent
Progress is being made, slower than hoped but we are pressing forward! The tent is/has been bought and paid in full. The delay in getting it set up on site is the foundation. The cement trucks and bricks arrived last week so they’ve been busy laying a nice foundation for the tent structure. Here are a few pics…..

Diepsloot Schools
In our last email we eluded to our recent involvement in the public schools in Diepsloot squatter camp. After a number of school related crimes, we were contacted to help. The school board wanted to “try” and see if a positive Godly message would help curb violence in the schools.

Acts has been helping out here and doing a bang up job. He has been so well received by the students. We’ve done 4 assemblies in addition to meetings with school leadership so far and have been invited to 5-6 more over the coming weeks. Please keep these in your prayers…that the Godly message would penetrate hearts, change motives and be a positive influence!

Head Masters are already claiming they see a difference…."things seem to be more peaceful”. Praise God!

Travel
Rich boarded a plane yesterday bound for the USA. His two weeks there will be interlaced with ministry as well as attending his sister, Joy’s college graduation and the latter portion of the trip he will be in New York helping his parents while his Dad undergoes back surgery.

Please pray for Rich’s travels…good ministry, open hearts to things happening here in Africa (sharing a lot on Impact Kids) and for Ron’s (Rich’s Dad) surgery!

Personal
Please pray for the Franzenfam that has remained on this side of the ocean. My greatest need of agreement and perhaps heightened prayer is for safety. We’ve had some recent “activity” in our neighborhood and we are pleading the blood of the Lamb over our dwelling, cars, kids, etc! When you think of us would you please do the same! We have large gates around our property, an alarm system, and 2 big dogs but I am most at ease thinking about our guardian angels keeping watch!

I am dwelling on Philp 4:6-7
Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

May the peace of God guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus today!

Recent Events

Last week we had the privilege of hosting a four day training event specifically for Pastors right here in our own backyard (well close to it anyway). Most of the attendees reside in South Africa however there was a group of Pastors that flew in from the Congo to join us for the event!

Rich and a few other speakers shared strategies and tips on church-planting, missions, vision and leadership. Even the simplest of principles were soaked up by this group as most haven’t had ANY leadership training. It was a powerful time of learning, sharing and encouraging one another!

The Pastors from the Congo shared with Rich their desire to organize a similar conference for their leaders and networks in the Congo. Perhaps one day soon we will penetrate this African nation on a larger scale with a Pastor’s conference.

We were able to cover all housing and meals for the group during the conference which was a tremendous blessing to them. The group expressed extreme delight and appreciation for the hospitality as it just doesn’t happen very often.

Seeds to Sow in the Midst of Need

It is often stated that Africa will not be changed through humanitarian aid alone.

Our intended purpose here is to teach people to “fish” and point them to the “Fisher of men” through an evangelistic and discipleship approach. We feel this concurs with the initial statement and we have been pleased with the results. However, I must admit when desperate physical need presents itself, it strikes at the very core of me. Daily we confront such in your face need experienced on a large scale in this country…desperate physical need, basic needs…deep need.

Two weeks ago an African baby was dropped on my helper's (Lizzy) doorstep. A 48 year old woman who already cares for her epileptic sister and niece, and can barely make ends meet now has a baby to care for as well ….to read more on “Conner” click here. This past week she faced a whole different set of circumstances…. Monday her sister (not the epileptic one) was struck by a car and life-flighted to the hospital. If that happened to someone we knew we’d jump in the car and would get to the hospital but how do you do something that comes so naturally and simple when you’ve spent your month’s salary (mostly taking care of others) and you have no money for transport? Real Need!

One of our IA employees is also dealing with a death in the family and has had to contribute much of this month’s salary to help with the incurred expenses. He came to Rich the other day and said, “Rich, I hate to say anything but I’m hungry; I haven’t eaten in 24 hours and I’ve used up all my salary money.” Real Need!

Friday morning Rich called from a Sam’s like store here and asked if I needed anything. I inquired why he was there as we don’t personally buy in bulk very often. He informed me of a call from our friend Mutsa whose wife and children live in Zim. (Click here and go to Jan Partner ltr to read more about Mutsa) He is here working to support them. His wife is a teacher in Zim but salaries have not been paid in over 6 months. That and the economy’s affect on Mutsa’s work caused him to reach out to a friend and share his need to obtain food for his family….they are almost out of everything. Real Need!

Obviously as missionaries we are here to help people and “meet needs”. Many of you help us help those in desperate need! It just seems there are days, even weeks like the past 2, when the need seems so overwhelming. Upon reflection, I realized the truth of God’s word when it says, “He gives seed to the sower!” We weren’t able to solve the above issues for our precious friends but I’m grateful we had seed to sow! It may have been in the form of groceries, money for transport, a good hot meal and extra salary but it was seed and we pray that it will bear much fruit in the lives of our friends!

Please continue to pray for the 3 mentioned above and all those we encounter through the churches and squatter camps. I know the failing economy has hit hard all over the globe and we too are praying for those who find themselves in great need because of it.

Some very exciting things are happening on this side of the Atlantic Ocean! And it is due to the prayers of many!

Permanent Residency Praise
With a chunk of change, much paperwork and prayer we submitted our applications for permanent residency more than 3 years ago. As time passed and our application seemed to be in the abyss, we solicited more prayer support. At the turn of 09 once again we sent out special requests for prayer believing for an end to the frustrating and slow process. Well that helped fill those prayer bowls and yesterday we got word that we were APPROVED for permanent residency. Whoo-hoo!

Thank you, Thank you, Thank you for not giving up and helping us push this through in the spiritual realm giving us a tangible result!

On another very exciting note…..

Kya Sands, Tent Church Praise
A few weeks ago we shared with you about the tent church in Kya Sands that was vandalized and asked for prayer. I even mentioned, “Wouldn’t it be awesome if we could help the church get a bigger and better tent for their growing congregation!” Well our Daddy is true to His word and He did exceedingly more than we asked!

Thanks to the prayers of MANY and the finances of a few people that were able and felt God impressing them to help, Judah Africa Church will now be meeting in this…

How great is our God!! Thank Him with us! And I pray this stirs your faith that God is attentive to our prayers….He hears you, and He answers!!

Thank you, I believe it took a team effort of prayer and agreement to see these things come to fruition!

Celebrating with Gratitude

Today marks 5 years of living in South Africa.

There are so many thoughts bombarding my mind and various ways I could attempt to script those thoughts. If I could pin point one emotion I’m experiencing today the overwhelming one is gratitude; so for the sake of brevity I will share 5 things I’m grateful for this celebratory day of 5 years in Africa.

Prayer…. This arena has taken on a whole new meaning for me this season in Africa. It is not just rhetoric or the “pat answer”, it has become a vital reality for me; an essence of daily life! What gets me through everyday is knowing we have an army of intercessors praying for the ministry and our family. For that I am immensely grateful. If you are apart of this army, Thank you, and know that your prayers are effective, purposed and appreciated!

Being Planted….I am grateful that the entire Franzenfam calls South Africa home! My kids become more South African with each passing day. They are happy, secure and being woven into the fabric of the culture. What a huge blessing for any parent to see their children not just surviving but thriving. We have been “hemmed in”!

My Co-Laborer….Rich has been a pillar of strength over the past 5 years. As with any process it is not always easy and it is in those times he has forged ahead taking God at His promises. As I look back over the process of getting here and where we sit today, I see the risks Rich helped us to take. It is often scary but I am grateful for his sensitivity to when the Spirit is leading us to one of life’s cliffs, him taking me by the hand and saying, “Come on honey, it is time to jump!”
(Note to self, read this one over and over again through the coming years as without a doubt there are many more “jumps” ahead).

The Word….Daily I’m amazed at the things we take for granted by viewing those in need. We must have at least 15 bibles in the house and 99% of the people we minister to have never had one. To have daily access to the words of my Father while others wait to hear those words from me and others like me…like you! It is a precious gift and so many of those words I hold dear as they have been a lamp unto our feet (Ps 119:105) guiding us down the African path!

My Lord and Savior….I am grateful to be a daughter of the King. Oh and praise the Lord that no persuasive speech, creative wit or exceptional talents are necessary for this Kingdom status! I am grateful that daily over the past 5 years, I was able and can continue to approach the throne room of grace confident that I would/will receive mercy and find grace to help me! (Heb 4:16)

We are grateful to be the Lord’s workmanship partaking in the work here in Africa that He prepared in advance for the Franzenfam. (Eph 2:10)

May the favor of the Lord rest upon us as He continues to establish the work of our hands…YES, establish the work of our hands! (Ps 90:17)

Uganda Bound

“Goodbye Daddy, I love you” Tori said without a wavier of emotion. We stood in the doorway blowing kisses and waving until the car drove out of sight. As we turned to go inside Tori remained still; a glimpse of her face told me the emotional climate was about to change. Her lip quivering she tried so hard to hold back the tears but out they poured.

Rich is Uganda bound. He will be working with a network of churches and Pastors to set up all the details necessary for the short-term teams that will be ministering there in June and July.

A few weeks ago details in Uganda regarding the mission trips were a bit askew to put it nicely. Fortunately, Rich left today with a greater degree of confidence with those he is meeting in Uganda that will help him set the course for the summer trips.

We dried Tori’s tears and although “daddy and hubby” will be missed I am feeling an air of confidence that it will be a good week!

God is faithful and we are surrounded by the prayers of many!

2 Areas NOT to Cut Back

We are so grateful to the many that put the “T” in the IA Team….your prayers, love and support are putting the “I” in Impact as well! African lives are being changed with YOUR help.

With all the economic issues going on we know that many are counting their pennies and cutting back to get by! Understandably so…we too are re-evaluating priorities and “needs”.

I’ve had many of conversations with the Lord about this process: how it affects me, those I know and the poor.

Recently, I received an e-update from Dr. David Shibley of Global Advance. A seasoned missionary overseeing an amazing organization of which we are privileged to be apart. Rich is the Southern Africa Regional Coordinator for Global Advance and we liaise with them on training events for African Pastors and leaders. (our latest e-update shares more about these events taking place this year)

I’d like to share his biblical insight on the subject….it is some great food for thought and meditation with the Lord!

Excerpt from Dr. David Shibley CEO Global Advance…

It’s easy in this financial climate to view benevolence and missions giving as optional. “Logical” thinking whispers: “Give to the needy? Hey, I’m getting needy! Give to missions? What about my own needs?” Yet these are the very two areas where we dare not cut back – especially in challenging financial times. Clear promises of provision are attached when we give to assist the poor and when we give to advance the Gospel.

Here are two sound bits of counsel from Scripture for these tough times:

First, don’t stop giving to help the poor. Beyond the obvious fact that there are many more people who need help when there is an economic downturn, there is also an important benefit for you when you give to help alleviate the sufferings of the poor. God’s Word promises, “He who gives to the poor will not lack, but he who hides his eyes will have many curses” (Proverbs 28:27). A safeguard against experiencing lack yourself is to give to help those who are in serious need.

We are to “weep with those who weep” (Romans 12:15). Now is the time for compassionate Christians to empathize with those suffering hardships and help lift them to a better life, and do this in Jesus’ name.

Second, don’t stop giving to missions. Are you ready for a jolt? Philippians 4:19 is a conditional promise. It’s a great promise: “And my God shall supply all your need according to His riches in glory by Christ Jesus.” Now read the context. Paul was commending the Philippian church for their generous investment in his missions outreaches. Because they had their priorities right – giving to what is dear to the heart of God – they could bank on God’s provision for them.

It’s right to give a careful, prayerful look where your money is going. But remember this sound, Scriptural advice:
• Keep giving to help the poor. Then you will not lack.

• Keep giving to missions. Then God will supply all your needs

Something to ponder, eh? We pray everyday that every supporter would walk in blessing and we believe your endeavors will succeed regardless of the economic frailties at the moment.

And please hear our heart...this is to encourage you and bless you not condemn you or try to solicit your support. There are many great people and organizations helping the poor and mobilizing the Gospel that need prayer and financial assistance.

Praying for Our International Team Members

Originally this past week we were supposed to be hosting a team from Washington however due to lack of finances they had to postpone their trip.

We are realizing more and more the effects the economic state is having on individuals, families, businesses, ministries, and churches. As a result Rich and I decided to take some extra action (in the spiritual realm that is). We daily pray for our partners, churches, teams, etc however, we both felt impressed to make extra time each week where we would pray TOGETHER specifically for our international team members.

There is a lot to be done and no one person can shoulder it alone. It grieves me to think there are people all over that have a strong pull on their heart to get on a plane and minister to the hurting around the world but are being held back because of finances. That is just not right. I’m saddened that The Rock interns were not with us this week; they have been a blessing to the African people in the past and I believe they would have been again. I know they’ll be back…it isn’t canceled it is just delayed but the reason of delay is pushing me to greater action.

There are teams currently planned to come work with us from the latter part of May through August and then a couple are talking of coming out in the fall. We’ve seen great ministry take place both in the team members and the African people…healings, salvations, freedom from bondage, training, practical help…and the list goes on. We can cover a lot of ground with the overseas troops and the fruit has been effective and eternal.

Would you join with Rich and me in petitioning the Throne Room on behalf of these teams coming and those wanting to come; that not one person or group would be held back because of finances?

Not Sunday as Usual

I am banking that most of you reading this went to church yesterday. And even if you did not I’m guessing it was because of some situation that came up but that you typically have a place you regularly go to worship on Sundays.

What if you got a call on Saturday expressing concern over where to meet for church on Sunday because the church building/your church had been destroyed?

For our friends at Judah Africa church in the squatter camp of Kya Sands this would be the message their congregates would receive via word of mouth (there are no telephones to make such a call).

The JA church “building” is not one of brick and mortar. It is a tent church where many people from the squatter camp join to worship the Lord, encourage each other, and help others around them also living in tough conditions. As of Friday this tent was destroyed beyond repair in an act of violence committed against the church body. It sickens me to think of why or who would do something like this but I tell you this church will not quit! In fact I believe this is an opportunity (although very unfortunate) for the church body and community to grow stronger. What Satan means for harm; God turns to good!

This photo brought tears to my eyes. The Pastors and leaders are there in the tattered tent amidst the rain praying.

Impact Africa is committed to help JA get another tent up and running as soon as possible. Pastor is researching options. A quick stab at what a new tent, big enough to hold the entire congregation might cost is around 4K. This is not something JA has in their budget nor does Impact Africa but we will work together and others to see what can be done.

Would you please pray:

That a new tent (wouldn’t it be awesome if we could find an even bigger one for future growth) would be found this week so the church can resume meeting on Sunday!

That the means to secure such a tent would be available, some how some way!

That the Pastors and church leaders would not be discouraged in this tragedy but would find Godly wisdom and encouragement to lead the congregation through this.

That the perpetrators would be found and brought to justice.

That this would not happen again! Angels encamped round about the new church and every member!

Well it has been awhile not due to lack of activity but because of it. Things settle down quite a bit over here the latter part of December so we enjoyed a lot of good family time as the kids were off school for summer break.

With school recently starting we are back in the swing of things; playing a bit of catch up and gearing up for the New Year.

Life without God = Hopelessness

For those reading this God is an inherent component of life. A special relationship that if not nurtured often becomes taken for granted resulting in the inability to see the depth of God’s mercy and blessings in our everyday lives. What a privilege it is to not only belong to the Lord’s Kingdom but to have the opportunity to KNOW Him as well. Can you imagine if this reality was taken away, what life would be like without God?

It is easy to become so consumed by our daily lives that we can forget the many in our periphery who are living life without God. Those whose lives are filled with family turmoil, personal tragedies, or held captive to hidden addictions. Regardless of economic status many toil effortlessly to conceal the emptiness and hopelessness experienced due to a life without God.

The realities of this kind of life are a vivid portrait of so many in the African culture. A culture steeped in centuries of false doctrine and traditional African belief systems. An outward lifestyle often depicted with extreme poverty, all kinds of abuse, heinous crimes against humanity and ultimately a hopeless outlook on life for much of the population.

We share this as a reminder to cherish your great standing with a loving passionate God and to encourage you to continue to work diligently alongside of us to bring that same hope, mercy, and favor of God to the thousands here in Africa. Life without God is no life at all! Regardless of circumstance or environment, life with God is a picture of Real Life!

“Let us consider and give attentive, continuous care to watching over one another, studying how we may stir up (stimulate & incite) to love and helpful deeds and noble activities.” Heb 10:24 amp

Today may you enjoy some of the precious faces of those you have helped eradicate a life of hopelessness and gain life with God….

A Good News Report

All the reports regarding Zimbabwe flooding the news in recent days are bleak, hopeless and tragic. Well Rich, Steve and the crew returned from Kwe, Kwe Zimbabwe with a GOOD report!

I don’t want to undermine the horrific circumstances the Zimbabwe people find themselves in; rather I would like to shed light on first-hand experiences the effects of prayer and the Good News are having!

The guys were in Zim for 2 weeks with back to back crusades each lasting 6 days. The first week in Mbizo close to 10,000 showed up to hear what was being shared each night. The response to the Gospel was amazing and people communicated how encouraged they felt!

The second week the crusade was in a smaller village area of Rutendo so attendance was not like the first week however the response was the same. Overall thousands (and I know I sound like a typical evangelist with that phrase but it is the truth) gave their lives to Jesus and many testified of physical healings.

In between the crusades there was a Pastor’s conference with 300 or so in attendance. Rich said this was a highlight for him. To encourage these Pastors that are shepherding so many during a very difficult time. Listen to a few of the testimonies they heard…

“Thank you so much for coming we have felt forgotten for so long.”
“Wow if we had known what was going to be taught we would have made our whole church and every other church we know be here.”
“Thank you my life direction has been completely altered in a new direction.”

Throughout history and even today Christians all over the globe are suffering persecution in various ways. The Christians and especially these Pastors in Zim are suffering yet in this time as it has been in history the Gospel must and will advance. The Pastor’s grasped hold of this with great excitement….to be amongst the many that will remain not only steadfast with their hope in the Lord during perilous times but be proactive in advancing the Kingdom!

I know we are all in the throws of the holiday season but would you please take a moment and pray for these Pastors. Look at the picture as a reminder of their faces and pray they would remain strong, be encouraged, protected, and blessed in their efforts and vigilance for the Lord!

Thank you for your prayers while the team was in Zim and your continual prayers for the ministries represented and the precious people of this “war” torn country.

A Report from Zimbabwe

I have briefly heard from Rich while in Zim. Communication is tough. They had a great week in Kwe Kwe. Close to 10,000 people showed up each night to the crusade. He said people are so open and appreciative of them being there. Thousands are responding to the salvation message and there have been lots of tangible miracles.

The team is blown away at how receptive people have been and how appreciative the people are. The people are sharing how they have felt so forgotten and cast aside by their government and the outside world yet during such a dark and desperate hour the team has come to them to share hope. It is the first time in a long time they have felt valued or cared for. How precious!!

The team moved across town and will start another week of ministry tonight in this new area.

Please continue to pray for the safety and well being of the group there ministering. Rich said the electricity is out at least 4-6 hours a day yet they have food to eat and have lots of bottled water so are glad for those things.

Please continue to pray for open and receptive hearts during ministry this week. Unfortunately we can’t change the political situation or feed the entire crowd yet we can love on them and share with them the One who loves them the most. Encouragement seems to be going a long way.

Please pray there would be restoration to this nation….such a travesty what is happening to these precious people. Thousands are flocking to South Africa for safe haven. The town of Musina (closest border city) is ill prepared for so many people…..pray there would be a quick solution within the country of Zim to end such unnecessary suffering.

Kwe Kwe Crusade

Rich left this morning for Zimbabwe. He flew into Bulawayo, a Pastor met him at the airport and they drove 2 hours to the area of Kwe Kwe. I recently got a text from him stating they arrived safe and sound!

The crusade began Tuesday night and our friend that is there preaching said thousands are coming, they are hurting but very open.

Rich will join the speaking staff, preaching at the Crusade in the evenings and this weekend will be apart of a Pastor's conference for the Pastors in that area.

The crusade continues the whole of next week so Rich will only return on the 14th.

I am sure in addition to the horrific political upheaval, and literal starvation happening in the country you have heard the recent news reports about the Cholera outbreak. These precious people are hurting in a very real way. What a timely place to be right now...we are privileged to be apart of those offering hope!

Would you please pray for Rich, our friend Steve, and the team there for safety, wisdom, strength and sensitivity to the people and the Holy Spirit.
This country needs a miracle...thankfully we know the Miraculous One and are there not by our might or power but by His Spirit!

Ordinary People, Divine Connections, A Special Mission

What does Judah Africa Church, TOMS shoes, Fellowship Church and Impact Africa have in common?

This….....

On Dec 1, World AIDS Day, we all joined forces to bless the community of Kya Sands! 1 in every 4 living in this community and it is most probable it is more like 1 in 3 are living with HIV and AIDS.

As you know IA has worked in this community in partnership with a GREAT tent church, Judah Africa for a number of years. It is here we are planning the first Impact Kids site and as promised here is the sign posted in the freshly grated ground….

Well through nothing short of a divine connection we were honored to host the Young family from Fellowship Church-Texas in a time of tangibly giving to the precious African people living in the Community.

The Youngs brought TOMS shoes (you need to check out this website—these guys rock as do the Youngs!) that we fitted for a couple dozen happy recipients....

After the foot washing and new shoes, everyone was handed a food parcel and the kids gathered around for some sweets.

TOMS motto is "for every pair of shoes purchased one is given to a child in need".....Tori had a similar one for one motto...for every sweet given one would be consumed.

We had 120 food packs prepared and my smart husband brought extra rice and pap (main staple) just in case. Good thing as we had just enough!

Later Rich drove the Young family through the squatter camp where they were able to gain some footage for a new series Pastor Ed is doing…"How Beautiful are the Feet of Those that bring Good News!” The series will culminate with a massive TOMS shoes drop and mission trip right here in South Africa, Aug 2009. Exciting stuff on the docket….thanks for your prayers and keep em coming!

Ground Breaking News

If you are unfamiliar with Impact Kids it would behoove you to read this post first…click here and this exciting news will make a lot more sense.

Last week we began work on the first Impact Kids school in the squatter camp of Kya Sands. Rich found favor with a tractor/grater company and they have been grating the school grounds at no cost to us.

This week, a sign will go up announcing to the community what is taking place and we will hold a Christmas celebration for some families living in the community on Dec. 1.

We have some grants for funding written and submitted for Impact Kids that we are waiting to hear word on and a potential church partnership with the schools as well so the journey is underway!

The bible says, "To call forth those things that are not as though they were" and we have been doing that but we have learned there comes a time to "walk forth" those things as well! It is exciting to begin walking out our faith with these initial steps!

Here are a few glimpses of what is happening:

What isn't seen is all the shacks housing the communities 12,000 people. (off to the left of the property)

The community is seeing some evident footprints and it builds their faith, gives hope and creates confidence that someone cares about them.

Your prayers for us in this Impact Kids endeavor are much appreciated! Just as this massive tractor came in and smoothed the land with ease, we believe the Lord will make the rough places smooth on the path before us!

PBC Rocks!

Saturday our very fun group from Pioneer Baptist Church returned to America after a week of ministry here with us.

It is the end of the school year here and with no T-Day holiday I have been immersed in Christmas/end of the year plays, concerts, award ceremonies, swimming meets and the fifty thousand practices leading up to these. So “Mom” trumped my contact role and where I am so glad I can be apart of these activities with my kids it was unfortunate that I was unable to spend much time with this group.

Rich and our All-Star Team of translators (“Bones”, My favorite Zulu- Pastor Fundilie, and our Main Man Acts) took great care of the team.

The group worked in 3 squatter camps and had a variety of ministry. From school presentations, a church service and ministry to pregnant women at a clinic in Diepsloot, to home-to-home visitations in Kya Sands and Zandspruit the group ministered with a vengeance.
